What is the purpose of the Association?
NCR REA's mission is to keep members informed on issues related to NCR Corporation and other matters of interest.
Who can join the Association?
Membership in the Association is open to any person retired from NCR or NCR employees or former NCR employees who are vested with NCR.
Who directs the Association?
NCR REA is managed by a Board of Trustees elected by Association members. Trustees are volunteers and receive no compensation. Trustees meet monthly and an Annual Meeting for the entire membership is held each year in the fall .
Does NCR Corporation have representation on the Board?
NCR REA is an independent organization and NCR Corporation is not a member. However, NCR REA maintains a good working relationship with NCR so that the Association can obtain important information which can be communicated to its members.
What are the main activities of the Association?
The Association publishes a quarterly newsletter, NCR Retiree News, which contains many helpful articles on important issues such as pensions and medical insurance benefits. Also, the newsletters contain general information on subjects such as preparing wills and changing beneficiaries, filing death claims, human interest stories of NCR's rich history, product and financial information on NCR's performance, articles of interest submitted by Association members, deaths, and announcements of meetings and activities of various local NCR groups.
NCR REA has established a permanent office address, e-mail, voice mail, and a web site, and responds to inquiries submitted by members.
NCR REA publishes a membership directory (hard copy and online) to help members maintain contact with other members.
The Association encourages and supports the formation of local and regional NCR retiree get-togethers and publicizes activities of these groups in the Newsletter.
NCR REA has developed an NCR Oral History Program in conjunction with the Dayton History, home of the NCR Archive, to preserve the history of the people, significant events, or just the every day activities that took place through the years at NCR.
NCR REA holds a Homecoming event (reunion) every 3 years for members and their spouse/guest. There have been two events, Homecoming I in 2000 and Homecoming II in 2003. Homecoming III wil be held in September, 2006.
Does NCR REA participate in law suits?
While having significant interest in retirement and health care benefits issues that involve many U.S. companies and their retirees, the Board of Trustees does not believe it has the legal expertise nor the financial resources to retain a law firm. By Federal law, benefits are controlled by employers and the Trustees do not believe it should commit its limited resources as a legal advocacy group, but instead should concentrate on the objectives in its Mission Statement. However, NCR Retiree News does report on law suits involving NCR and other company retiree groups as the legal matters are learned.
